"Well-- Kind of," she hedged, because her planned script really only had options for 'yes' or 'no' there. "There are dice. Anyway. You sit at a table, and you each make a character, apart from the person who's telling the story the characters are in... and then the storyteller describes the world, and all of the monsters you'll have to fight. And then you describe how your character fights the monsters. And if you win, your character becomes more powerful, and can do whatever they want."
Kind of... There were dice. She understood that concept at least. Sit at a table, make a character like in a story, you say how your character wins and then they became more powerful and could do what they wanted to.
"I did no be hearing about it before, but it do be sounding cool. How do you be winning the fights? Do you just have to be describing it the best?"
"That's right! You have to describe it. But if you and the storyteller disagree, you roll the dice, and whoever gets higher wins."
This wasn't much of an obstacle when you were reasonably competent at sleight of hand, she figured. It'd be something to practise, anyway. Sensing that Buttercup was interested, she went in for the kill. "Mister Uta said he'd be the storyteller. So will you play with me?"
"Great!" She clapped her hands together in sharp excitement. "You need to take a notebook and pencil, and if you have any dice, those too. I'll find you after we stop and mister Uta's gotten his storybook."
That was everything, right? Yeah.
"I'll leave you alone. Come talk to me at dinner, okay?"

"Tabletop games? Do they be being like board games?"
After all they were played on a table.

A story you could win sounded intriguing.

Especially when she had learned dice off some of the most unscrupulous sailors in Gauig. She had some tricks up her sleeves fo sure.
"Yes. I will be playing."

"I will be finding you." She wasn't hard to find, even in a crowded place like the dining carriage.
